Helping parents who devote their talents to raising their children

PARENTS WORK, PLLC

Lauren Waller Smith, Executive Director and Founder: Ms. Smith founded Parents Work to represent active, involved, loving and creative parents. Ms. Smith began her family law career by working on behalf of survivors of domestic violence; first as a prosecutor, next as a legal services attorney and then in private practice.  She was inspired by watching so many survivors of violence respond to being abused and isolated by focusing all of their talent and creativity on becoming the best possible parents they could be.  Raising her own daughter also taught Ms. Smith the importance of hands-on parenting. Prior to starting her own practice, Ms. Smith spent most of her legal career as a legal services attorney, heading the family law units of two legal services organizations.  Ms. Smith also has an extensive history of community activism at state, local and national levels on custody, domestic violence and poverty issues.  Ms. Smith attended Dartmouth College and graduated cum laude in 1990. She obtained her law degree from Columbia University School of Law in 1995 and was honored as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar all three years.
